your lumbar muscles are of the weakest surrounded by your body. Try to develop your stomache muscles for support of your back; stretch your spinal column, hamstrings, upper-back/neck; examine your posture when standing or sitting (esp. sitting at a computer); get regular exercise similar to walking. The best effort at spinal column health is to prevent another injury.
I don't know what your concrete problem is, but I have unpromising lower back backache because I have a retroverted uterus near a crimp. So it's essentially sitting on my spine. So no matter what I do, the spasm won't go away. You may want to ask your gyno if you own this because there is a simple laprascopic surgery to fix it.
For something approaching back discomfort, you should consult a Dr.
